About The Role

Reporting to the Operations Manager, we are looking for an Area Manager who will be accountable for the overall management of the Coffs Harbour, Grafton and Yamba branches of Thrifty.

The focus of the role will be to ensure the smooth day-to-day operation of all branches where you will lead a team of 7, whilst maximising fleet utilisation, customer experience and profitability of all locations.

This role is a permanent full-time role, where you will work a 76 hour fortnight. Whilst predominantly working Monday – Friday, this role will require you to be available to work weekends and public holidays as required.

The successful candidate will have a pro-active, can do attitude where no task is too big or too small and where you can step up to the challenge of carrying out all Area Manager duties whilst also being hands on to ensure that the offices are always running at maximum efficiency.

This is not a role for the faint hearted, it is fast-paced where you will be using your people management, fleet management, sales expertise and customer service skills to ensure each branch is performing to be the #1 branch

The key responsibilities for this role are listed below, but not limited to:

  • Ensure the day-to-day operations across all 3 branches are running as efficiently and effectively as possible

  • Train and support team of 7 across 3 locations ensuring that work is carried out in a timely and efficient manager and that staff have all the tools to carry out their jobs

  • Set KPI’s and targets, ensuring these are measured, monitored and adhered to

  • Put in place succession plans to ensure that internal staff maximise their careers

  • Fleet Management ensuring the right vehicles are on site for the day/week’s bookings and maximising their utilisation

  • Manage local costs in line with the budget, maintaining expenses and exceeding sales targets

  • Focus on being best in class in all areas including customer service, sales and providing operational excellence

  • Resolve any escalated issues in a timely and win-win outcome for both the company and the customer

  • Implement a business development plan for both corporate and retail customers, utilising local network and existing relationships as well as partnering with the Thrifty Business Development Manager to leverage all opportunities

  • Provide daily/weekly reports as required by the Operational Manager

  • Assist in any day-to-day operational duties as required

  • Adhere to all compliance, WH&S and all policy and procedures to ensure a safe working environment

To be considered for this role you must have:

  • Diploma in Management or higher highly regarded

  • Extensive experience in the car/truck rental industry where you have managed both staff and day to day operational matters

  • Excellent staff management where you will use your leadership, mentorship and training expertise to provide staff with the tools to be the best in the business

  • Possess strong performance management skills

  • Ability to maximise staff and fleet movement

  • Experience in producing reports, meeting KPI’s and targets and ensuring adherence to work guidelines are met

  • Demonstrated ability to handle high pressure situations, to accept responsibility and accountability

  • Ability to quickly and effectively resolve escalated issues

  • Hold an open, manual drivers’ license. MR/HR licence highly regarded, however for the successful candidate Thrifty will arrange for you to get this license

  • Strong computer skills with the ability to quickly learn the point-of-sale software

  • Ability to multitask, be highly organised with have a strong attention to detail

  • Experienced in dealing with customer issues and conflict resolution

  • Flexibility of work hours to ensure all 3 branches have coverage

  • Take pride in your work, the office that you work in and the presentation of the fleet of vehicles

  • Have a leadership as well as a hands-on mentality

The successful candidate must have full work rights in Australia and provide a clean valid police check completed within the last 6 months.
